Happy 4th of July, everyone! I thought we could celebrate the holiday with a little 4th of July fashion. I found 3 cute pieces that show that your outfit for the Fourth does not – repeat, NOT – have to be one of those $5 shirts from Old Navy that proclaims “JULY 4TH 2009″ in bright red letters above the American flag. I have to admit to wearing these shirts – until I turned 10 and realized how ugly they were, but more importantly, I realized how much more fun it is to figure out your own July 4th outfit, without throwing on that tee and a pair of jeans. Betsey Johnson Fleet Week Sweater Dress. $173.
This dress from Betsey Johnson is the perfect example of showing pride without being literal about it. I love the stripes and the faux belt – it’s actually a part of the knit skirt!

Vineyard Vines Sea Stars & Stripes Chappy Trunk. $84.
Obviously, a guy’s gotta have some serious confidence to rock a print like this on his trunks. But, once again, it’s patriotic without saying “Happy 4th of July” anywhere, which is the ultimate goal.

Ralph Lauren Skinny-Fit Flag Polo. $125.
For 4th of July clothes, what better store to visit than one of the most American companies out there, Ralph Lauren? This polo is perfect: it comes in a variety of colors, including red, white, and navy, so you can personalize to the extreme. I also love the tiny USA flag in the corner.
